The eMedicine Clinical Knowledge Base comprises constantly updated medical review articles. Nearly 10,000 contributors have created over 6,500 medical review articles within the Clinical Knowledge Base. All eMedicine articles go through a 5-step peer-review process (four physicians and a Doctor of Pharmacy) to ensure that a consistently high level of content quality is maintained. The following sections contain details on becoming an eMedicine author or editor.

 Become an Editor

The core eMedicine content for 59 medical specialties is essentially complete. However, we are constantly adding medical review articles as new information becomes available. Because of this growth we may have a need to expand the editorial boards of certain references. If you are interested in an editorial board appointment, the minimum requirements for the various levels are as follows:

  1. For all levels the individual must be board certified in the specialty of the reference and hold an academic title in a US or Canadian medical school. Individuals with academic titles from foreign medical schools will be considered by the selection committee on a case-by-case basis.

  2. For Medical Editors the minimum academic standing is Assistant Professor (preferably with several years at that level) or higher. Individuals with desired expertise may be considered on a case-by-case basis by the selection committee.

  3. For CME Editors the minimum academic standing is Assistant Professor (preferably with several years at that level) or higher.

  4. For Managing Editors the minimum academic standing is Associate Professor (preferably with several years at that level) or higher. Recognized experts at the Assistant Professor level will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the selection committee.

  5. For Chief Editors the minimum academic standing preferred is full professor. In addition other academic, society, or professional honors are required (eg, Endowed Chair, Endowed Professorship, Department Chair, Medical School Dean, Chief of Staff, Specialty Society President). On occasion nationally or internationally recognized experts at the Associate Professor level will be considered by the selection committee.

Keep these criteria in mind if you are interested in applying for an editorial board position. Please send an email with your CV attached to the Editor-in-Chief, Dr George Lundberg. Existing Editors click here to login.
